Este es el episodio de la Boda. Mi Madre y mi Padre interambiaron sus juramentos de amor y mi Madre cruzó el umbral hacia su vida de casada. La Casa de Muñecas en la que la pareja recién casada intentaría crear un hogar tenía una ventana rota a través de la cual se coló el engaño, y el gatitode la herida fétida regresó para recordarnos que la tarea pendiente consiste en sostener los opuestos con amor de manera que la compasión nos permita descifrar los misterios de nuestra humanidad compartida.  

VA2 Ep. 14 The Dollhouse with The Broken Window, and the Cat with The Fetid Wound Returns

This is the Wedding Episode. My Mother and Father exchange vows and my Mother crosses the threshold into married life. The Dollhouse in which the newlyweds attempt to create a home had a broken window through which deceit crept in, and the Cat with the fetid wound reminds me to hold opposittes with love, so that compassion might allow us to unlock the mysteries of our shared humanity.

El 13 de Mayo es el día de la Virgen de Fátima. En sus apariciones a tres pastoricitos en Portugal, ella reveló secretos y profecías acerca del estado del mundo. Yo la honro continuando la narración de la vida de mi Madre, quien a pesar de las complicaciones y los desafíos, se acercaba a saltar hacia el abismo del Matrimonio y siguió su corazón, que ya estaba adornado por una corona de espinas. Los elementos dulces y amargos de la existencia humana nos unen, contar historias es una herramienta poderosa para disolver las muchas maneras en que persistimos en fomentar las divisiones entre nosotros. 

VA2, Ep. 13, The Heart with a Crown of Thorns

On May 13th the feast of the Virgin of Fatima is celebrated. In her apparitions to three children who were shepherds in Portugal, she revealed secrets and prophecies about the state of the world. I honor her as I continue the stories of my Mother’s life, who despite the continuing challenges and complications, committed to jumping into the abyss of Marriage and followed her heart, which already was adorned with a growing crown of thorns. The sweet and the sour elements of human existence unite us; voicing stories is a powerful tool to dissolve the many ways we devise to create divisions among us.

Jaime Cuartas, mi Padre, es el protagonista de este episodio. Mi madre y mi padre se conocieron en un aeropuerto y en ese mismo día compraron un tiquete de lotería que alteró la vida de la familia Uribe para siempre. De repente, María del Pilar parecía querer comportarse como Michín, el Gato Bandido de Pombo, pero vas a tener que escuchar todo el episodio para poder entender a qué me refiero.

Jaime Cuartas, my Father, is the subject of this episode. They met at an airport and on that same day they together bought a  lottery ticket that changed my mother’s family’s life forever.  All of a sudden, María del Pilar seemed to want to behave like Michín, the Bandit Cat, you’ll have to listen to understand exactly what I mean. 

VA2, Ep. 11 ES La Mariposa Atrapada en la Telaraña

Regresamos a Medellín, donde mi madre está a punto de cumplir sus 18 años de edad y de graduarse y está llena de aspiraciones en cuanto a su futuro. Sin embargo, como una mariposa atrapada en una telaraña, su situación familiar, su sociedad e incluso el momento histórico en que se hallaba en Medellín, a comienzos de la década del 60,  constituyen fibras que la amarran firmemente. Sin dejarse diezmar, ella persevera y encuentra maneras de manifestar su identidad y florecer.
