VA5, Ep. 11 The Amazon’s Nativity: a nest of White Waters that touches the sky

We continue to follow Loren McIntyre’s Amazonia and we start off at the birthplace of the Amazon River itself, a nest of White Waters on the top of the world, up on the Andes Mountains. We navigate the history of the Amazon, the many motivations that have led people to explore its treacherous depths. We learn about the Incas, the conquerors, the naturalists, the greed-driven prospectors. As a tantalizing dessert, as delicious as copuasú ice cream, we examine contemporary discoveries and astounding features of today’s Amazonia.  This is the first leg of long journey of exploration of the many faces of the Amazon River and the basin that shares its name.
